Believe it or not, Southern Ohio hosts many art functions that may not be taken advantage by the local people. There are a few museums and an outstanding performance center located in this region. The Paramount Arts Center is located in Ashland, Kentucky. Although this center is not found in Ohio, many Ohioans make the trip to attend the events that are held at the Paramount.
The Paramount Theater, originally designed and built to show motion pictures, has provided an intimate venue for a variety of performances since it first opened in 1931. The vision for the theater is to create a cultural environment that reaffirms the area’s Appalachian tradition. The Paramount offers the best of the performing arts to its guests.
The calendar for the Paramount has some very interesting performances coming up. One of the most anticipated events is Backstage Players Production of Disney’s High School Musical. This production is a cover of Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical. This movie is being brought to life on the Paramount’s stage.
This full length stage musical runs approximately two hours with an intermission. It contains songs from the Disney Channel movie soundtrack. The show will be performed on Thursday March 8, 2007, at 7:00 p.m, Friday March 9, 2007, at 7:00 p.m.; and Saturday March 10, 2007, at 7:00 p.m..
This musical will draw a large crowd based on the fact that it appeals to the younger and older generation. High School Musical, the movie, proved that it attracted young people to become interested in the performing arts, which is always a plus.
